Others feel that it is imperative to give one’s brain a rest in relaxation time. Talk about. Loosening up our psyche has been an essential piece of investing our free energy for a large number of years. The greater part of the individuals find loosening up exercises like perusing a book while others love to remain in the recreation center, simply observe an exhausting TV channel or talk about with companions before some tea or espresso. Regardless of whether possibly a few people won't absolutely concur with me, I consider that two of the most significant exercises that ought to eat our leisure time are the perusing of a book and outside exercises with family or companions. Perusing has consistently been one of the exercises that intrigued the human psyche and as long as we read books written in a language that we don't discover hard to comprehend, we should discover perusing a loosening up movement. Obviously, as long as the books we are perusing are not very specialized to cause us to understand that we are not perusing for entertainment only however for study. For instance I recall when my sister disclosed to me that by perusing for unwinding she discovered God and that completely changed her. She was perusing for the most part strict books. Another action which I for one consider that can have a significant impact in our life are outside exercises with relatives or companions. This exercises will assist us with being in a decent shape for an extensive stretch of time and in a similar time will assist us with creating solid cozy associations with the people we are investing our energy with. Furthermore, solid and cozy connections are imperative to have with individuals we might want to have around us for longer timeframes. All in all investing our energy is significant and we ought to have a truly clear thought between investing some time and loosing some time. I emphatically accept that guessing what a book will help us might be thinking and build up our jargon and when we have additional time and climate is with us, investing some energy outside with family or companions will support our relations. I simply trust that fewer and fewer individuals will discover significant exercises like playing PC games and stare at the TV arrangement.

Poverty and Crime Essay

Neediness can be characterized as the hardship of essential needs or necessities. These are things that are required by people for them to get by for instance cover, apparel, food and water. Destitution makes agony and stress the individuals who experience the ill effects of it however as per the Christians, it is viewed as a positive thing that makes them progressively dependable and absence of these properties is esteemed righteous. Then again, wrongdoing is viewed as the infringement of rules and guidelines of the state. At the point when this is done, the guilty party is viewed as a crook. Demonstrations of wrongdoing are deserving of law on the off chance that one is indicted blameworthy for submitting a specific offense. see more:essays on wrongdoing Neediness and wrongdoing are interrelated as destitution is a free factor while wrongdoing is the dependant variable and control of one affects the other, that is if neediness is diminished the pace of wrongdoing would go down. This exploration paper is equipped towards tenderizing to the light the connection among destitution and wrongdoing. Do they have a connection? There have been claims that destitution prompts wrongdoing and this can't be denied as in America today, wrongdoing commonness is enrolled in zones that are occupied by the poor Americans. It's anything but a typical thing for a spot to have high pace of wrongdoing without the reason for it. Destitution isn't just bound to the poor underdeveloped nations as even in America, United Kingdom and other created countries there are individuals who live in penury. In the United States, the poor live in lodgings known as ghettos and the most influenced are the African Americans. Numerous individuals discredit the case that neediness is the causal factor of wrongdoing. For instance in Boston, during the 1830s there were a lot of instances of wrongdoing, which to numerous was credited to destitution. This turned into a test to the occupants who in an offer to diminish the degree of wrongdoings framed foundation associations that were intended for helping these destitute individuals. Numerous individuals imagined that the needy individuals are the ones who submit botches so these associations that were shaped were intended to lessen the quantity of African Americans in the war. (Sampson RJ. 1987) In the United States of America, it is apparently said that the quantity of blacks in penitentiaries is a lot higher than those that are in instructive establishments. In Boston, it was expected that since ladies were the ones who went for a noble cause things, which were given for nothing by the Boston’s good cause associations. Here, this was not the situation as in Boston as the quantity of ladies who were detained was 12. 25 percent and not overlooking that this figure included ladies everything being equal. This examination repudiated the much-speculated conviction that neediness and wrongdoing are connected. A few violations that are related with neediness don't have a connection when they are firmly examined. These are violations, for example, vandalism, pyromania and wanton obliteration of properties. For what reason would a needy individual annihilate a few properties that might he be able to/she could utilize? Needy individuals are constrained by neediness to go to wrongdoing. In most ambush cases, the casualties guarantee that they lost their properties so it tends to be certainly be said that the culprits are individuals who can't manage the cost of those products thus they imagine that the main way they could get to them is just through attacking the rich and turning out to be burglars. As per sociologists, there is a solid association between, the crime percentage and the families separations in the United States’ towns and urban communities. Urban areas that are involved by the blacks have announced increment in vicious crime percentage and this is credited to the pervasiveness of the female-headed families. Pager D. 2001) According to the 1980s research, the proportion of whites to blacks that were occupied with brutal wrongdoings was not in extent. As per the 1983 measurements, more homicide and attack cases in Chicago occurred in regions that were possessed by the African American and the Latino inhabitants who were low-pay workers. This validates the way that there is a connection among violations and neediness and this is irrefutable, in the event that this isn't the situation, at that point can any anyone explain why regions that are involved by the poor register such a significant number of wrongdoings? The past looks into that were done during the 1980s communicated an association between single parent headed families with wrongdoing predominance and particularly in dark family units. In 1984, all the dark families were under female guardians and this pattern is as yet developing as the quantities of families with two guardians are continually on the decrease. Of all the 360,000 families that lived on 5,000 dollars and beneath, females headed fifty seven percent of them. The proportion of families that were going by single ladies between the blacks and the whites were 74 percent to 26 percent. In Chicago, females own a large portion of the poor family units and particularly the ghettos. So the expansion in female families and most especially those in the ghettos have a connection between the high pace of reliance and destitution. (Pridemore W. A. what's more, Kim S. W. 2007) A measurable investigation that was done in hundred and fifty urban communities in America traits ascend in female-went to neediness. This is on the grounds that when men are not utilized they move out of these urban areas and go to search for employments deserting their spouses and this causes family interruptions. Thus, this family separation prompts the ascent in crime percentages and particularly in blacks private spots. Low pay adds to marriage partitions just as separation cases. Youngsters from families that are going by a female parent are inclined to entertain themselves with adolescent misconduct. At the point when youngsters are brought up in poor families they don't have the best possible instruction that they merit and this turns into an endless loop whereby destitution is brought about by absence of pertinent aptitudes and training. This makes it difficult to make sure about oneself a great job that can assist one with achieving their necessities along these lines getting considerably more unfortunate. Conjugal and family separations debilitate the social control systems that are essential in diminishing the violations rate. At the point when these social control implies are in power individuals take a gander at one another as their sibling or sister, they build up a ‘we feeling’ and they ensure each other properties. They likewise help each other to determine their questions yet when family bonds are debilitated, this issue is moved to the general public that is comprised of families. The outcome is that communism is subbed by independence or as it were, individuals gotten prideful and all that they do is implied of them and just them. Individuals devise alternate ways of obtaining riches and this implies theft, ambush and murder according to the circumstance requests. George F. Et Al. 2008) At the point when family bonds are solid, the two guardians help each other in dealing with the kids and they are all around associated to know the social desires yet when families are going by just one parent, the consideration that ought to be given to the kids is isolated in addition to other things and clearly when a youngster needs appropriate consideration, direction and advising, they become adolescent crooks. Consequently family disturbances because of destitution prompts ascend in female headed families, which thus prompts adolescent misconduct. In the United States of America, there are a few expresses that have horror rate but the inhabitants are not poor and there are a few states where individuals are exceptionally poor but then the crime percentage is extremely low. This makes the discussion about whether neediness has a relationship with wrongdoing extremely questionable. These cases are repudiated by the exploration discoveries on different zones discoveries in different territories where 53 percent of the considerable number of prisoners are individuals from poor regions where they earned about under 10,000 U. S dollars in a year. As per the financial hypothesis, individuals gauge alternatives before they carry out violations. It is said that individuals draw in themselves in wrongdoing just and just if the foreseen gains are more than the misfortune. (George F. Et Al. 2008) The conspicuous obvious end result that can be gathered from this is individuals who are poor and the individuals who live in neediness stricken families are more inclined to network wrongdoings than the individuals who are not poor. Those individuals who are suffering from neediness are bound to perpetrate violations, for example, theft, theft, thievery and selling medications and observation wrongdoing. If so, at that point poor family units and penitentiaries ought to plan something for invert the circumstance. This is in such a case that destitution level goes up so does the crime percentages and this thus impacts on the detainment facilities that get profoundly populated with crooks. The legislature should concoct measures that would help in breaking this relationship since this pattern influences the restorative offices. It is extremely unlikely you can address the conduct of destitute individuals since they are situational lawbreakers. It is just that they are constrained by conditions to carry out violations. The main reasonable alternative of controlling or decreasing the wrongdoing commonness is to monetarily enable the poor residents. The way that destitution and wrongdoing are interrelated is obvious on account of Detroit city, which is among the most unfortunate urban communities in the United States of America. Poor residents occupy the encompassing zone of this town. The framework is damaged by outrageous destitution and loss of social control instruments. The vast majority of the understudies who join grounds never graduate since they could graduate, they engage in criminal acts that render some of them in correctional facilities. Something else that prompts the ascent of crimes is the way that in social orders there are two outrageous finishes, and these are the rich and poor people. In the United States the hole between those who are well off and the less wealthy is high something that interests needy individuals to take or take part in different types of crimes just to procure their living. In the event that a rich individual is living in closeness to the poor family units, there is high likelihood that he/she will end up being a casualty of ambush, loss of properties and even theft. This happens be

Emily Dickinson s Death Of Life - 873 Words

Known for her ability to succinctly pen elegant and thought provoking poems on a wide range of topics: from self reliance to the turmoils of war, Emily Dickinson remains a pillar of talent and inspiration to this day. While most, if not all, poets reveal elements of themselves within their works Dickinson seems to lay herself bare before her readers; leaving very little left to the imagination. Dickinson achieves this by combining symbolism, allegory and often nimble punctuation within her stanzas. One of the poets most discussed themes seems to be death. From stylized descriptions of the various ways to meet one s end; to the feelings that accompany dying or the loss of a loved one – Dickinson explores it all. In the process of her exploration she brings the reader along with her to discover the rationality of religion and the possibility of figurative immortality. Discussing the concept of death within Emily Dickinson s seemingly innumerable poems is a daunting task. Albeit, a task that serves as an eye opening look into the human understanding of dying and all its nuances. Dickinson s penchant for writing about death likely steams from the way she often encountered death in her own life. From losing both of her parents and other important familial figures to living through the civil war; there was no shortage of mortality that Dickson couldn t write about. Marxist Criticism free essay sample

Based on the socialist and dialectical theories of Karl Marx, Marxist criticism views literary works as reflections of the social institutions out of which they are born. According to Marxists, even literature itself is a social institution and has a specific ideological function, based on the background and ideology of the author. In essence, Marxists believe that a work of literature is not a result of divine inspiration or pure artistic endeavor, but that it arises out of the economic and ideological circumstances surrounding its creation. For Marxist critics, works of literature often mirror the creators own place in society, and they interpret most texts in relation to their relevance regarding issues of class struggle as depicted in a work of fiction. Although Marx did not write extensively on literature and its place in society, he did detail the relationship between economic determinism and the social superstructure in various texts, including Zur Kritik der Politischen Okonomie (1859), where he stated: â€Å"The mode of production of material life determines altogether the social, political, and intellectual life process. We will write a custom essay sample on Marxist Criticism or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page It is not the consciousness of men that determines their being, but on the contrary their social being, that determines their consciousness. † Thus, although he did not expound in detail on the connections between literature and society, it is agreed among most scholars that Marx did view the relationship between literary activity and the economic center of society as an interactive process Marxism says that people in the world are organized into different groups or classes based on their relationship to how things are made. Most people are called workers because they work in factories or offices or farms for money. They belong to the working class (or proletariat). Another group, who are not as big as the working class are capitalists, because they own the factories, land and buildings that the workers have to work in and also own all of the tools the workers have to use. Marx calls Capitalists the Ruling Class because they live off of the work of all the workers. He also says that the Capitalists own the government, army and courts. In Marxist views, Capital is the means of production and money which the Capitalist can invest in different places of business so that they can profit or gain more Capital.

Most Essential Business Model Components â€Myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss About The Most Essential Business Model Components? Answer: Introducation Ordering and delivering of food is not a new business idea. However, with the concept of innovation and advancement, the idea of food business has evolved with changing times. There have been various options for me to initiate a start-up regarding the grocery delivery, restaurant table booking, midnight food delivery, etc. I recognized that with the hectic schedule of people with high-stress factor and juggling of work at both work place and home, there is always a scarcity of time for cooking and operating own food for work (Ebner, Buhnen Urbach, 2014). With the upheaval of a hectic lifestyle, there is a direct effect on the health of the people in a negative way. This inspired me to initiate a business idea regarding online delivery of meal boxes which are completely oriented to healthy dietary patterns. The meal boxes that my business would provide would have food dishes that are very customized by considering health and diet considerations. People can be very conveniently ordered for the dishes and meals according to their likeness and diet concerns as we do not use any excessive amount of oil, flours and other food items that pose adverse effects to health. People having a hectic work schedule and at the same time desire to have a completely structured diet through well prepared, light meals can very easily book order their meal boxes which will be delivered to them at their desired location within an hour (Ferretti, et al., 2015). They would also be able to have their meals customized which will allow them the liberty to have a mixed combination of food every day. My business of online food delivery of meal boxes also offers the facility for consumers to book meal boxes for the entire month where they can choose their meals every day at once (Lai, et al., 2016). The business model that we follow is much in resonance with the objective of the business to provide healthy meals to people having a hectic schedule. Our business understands that having same boring meals may tend to bore any employee. In order to bring back the deliciousness into the lives of the employees along with removing the hassle of preparing food, our business model completely matches the mission of the business. The consumers will need to create a profile on our official website and get registered with the service platform. The users will be receiving a message regarding the available options for meals every day at a particular time so that they can very well be aware and notified regarding the meals without making any effort (Winfield, 2015). The interested users and consumers can very conveniently place the order and make the required payment online. We would then forward the order to our kitchen to prepare the meals box well accordance with the order of the consumer keeping his or her dietary requirements and preferences in consideration (Lai, et al., 2016). After the processing of the order has taken place, the meal platform will make the collection of the order and implement the delivery of the ordered meal box to the respective location (work place or home, etc) at the specified time. History Essay Sample Outline - Teaching the Essay Writing OutlineIt's easy to find a History Essay Sample Outline that looks really good on paper, but what does it mean? A lot of students feel a bit overwhelmed by all the hype surrounding a lot of different teaching aids, so many feel that they are not sure what to make of all the different types of writing prompts and outlines. Of course, all too often they end up making big mistakes with this information. The main reason why the students become confused is because they do not realize that there is one thing that all of these writing prompts have in common. And that is that they are all teaching tools! No, they are not just for taking a quick look at the ideas that you need to get across to your students, they can also be very useful resources when you get stuck on a certain part of your lesson plan.So what happens when students make a huge mistake with something that is actually quite simple? They end up trying to deal with all the different things that they think they are doing wrong, and this leads to them confusing too many different things that they shouldn't. Now you will get a whole lot more out of your students if you can help them avoid these pitfalls when they are struggling with an assignment. You see, there are several different ways that you can go about teaching a student about these writing prompts. One way is to actually get them to write their own outline. While this may sound a little intimidating, the truth is that it really is very easy. All you need to do is to get some kind of text editor, or other type of program that will allow you to write and copy text on large format paper, and then you will be able to simply get your students to fill in the blanks. It's a great idea to get them to take a look at a timeline, or something that will give them a certain background information for each topic they are looking at. Then you can make sure that all of their data matches up well and will be easy for them to remember. This is a really powerful way to guide them through their assignments, without even having to use any actual methods that they would typically be using to gather information themselves. The history essay sample outline that you have to create may be more complicated than the entire point of your lesson plan. You should be thinking about how you can use this outline to help you teach them exactly what to say. You can do this by making sure that you use both kind of structure within it, so that you are able to provide enough background information to make them want to learn more. When this happens, you can then use the wordings to help them make the sentence structure sound natural and even if they are not used to writing this way. Instead of just teaching them how to use the proper punctuation and capitalization, you can instead get them to practice writing it as they would read it from a dictionary. This is very effective, and it will also make the assignment a l ot easier for them to finish. If you want to get students to study harder and to get better test papers, then teaching them how to use an outline may be the most effective way to go about it. If you can take the pressure off yourself and make them try out the different teaching strategies to see which ones they like best, then they will have much more success in completing a variety of tasks.

Slave Trade Begins in America at Santo Domingo A Research Paper

Introduction The significance of slave trade beginning in the Americas at Santo Domingo is that Santo Domingo became official center for exploration, organization for the conquest of other regions and capture of slaves who were later transported to the Americas to provide labor in sugarcane plantations (Spielvogel 426).Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Slave Trade Begins in America at Santo Domingo: A specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More According to Spielvogel, the discovery of the Americas in 1490s and the growth of sugar plantations in South America and the Caribbean are significant factors which drastically changed the destination of slaves i.e. the destination of slaves changed from Middle Eastern Regions and European Nations to the Americas where they worked in sugarcane plantations (426). Therefore, Spielvogel asserts that slave trade in the Americas flourished, as small American and Indian populations were converted into slaves who provided labor in sugarcane plantations. In addition, the Americas played a significant role in slave trade at the height of the transatlantic slave trade in the eighteenth century, which saw black slaves being transported by cargo ships from the West African coast to the Americas to provide labor (428). Towards the end of the fifteenth century, sugarcane plantations were set up by Portuguese off the coast of central Africa. Later in the sixteenth century, the use of slaves in sugarcane plantations further spread from the Americas to the Caribbean and Eastern Brazilian Coast where sugarcane plantations were widely grown (Spielvogel 424-428). According to Luciano, Santo Domingo, (now the capital city of the Dominican Republic), is one of the oldest American-European settlements founded in 1498 by Bartholomew Columbus. The city has had a crucial role to play, especially in the history of slave trade and slavery, being called the â€Å"oldest city in th e Americas† (Minster par.1-3). Santo Domingo’s history is fascinating because of historical events such as pirate victimization, dictatorship and slave activities. The first settlement in Santo Domingo (Navidad) which fell to the anger of natives was made up of sailors left behind by Columbus’ first voyage after the sinking of one of his ships (Minster 1-3). In his analysis of the ‘slave trade from the Caribbean and Latin America from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century’, Luciano traces Santo Domingo among significant centers where the trade in African slaves began (83-89). During this period, many Negro slaves were introduced into Spain from the West-African Coast.Advertising Looking for research paper on african american? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The discoveries and encouragements by the Portuguese to â€Å"black birding expeditions† at the end of the fifteenth century led t o the slave trade which later took negroes captured in Africa to territories which were discovered by Christopher Columbus (the Americas) (Luciano 54-58). According to Luciano, the above occurrence gave a marked impetus to slavery and slave trade; hence, African slaves were required to exploit the wealth in the discovered territories of the Caribbean and Americas which benefited colonizers. Luciano also perceives that it is at this time, especially before the end of the fifteenth century, that Negro slaves began to arrive at Hispaniola, the Island of Quisqeya, which later became Santo Domingo. The slaves are traced to have come from abundant reserves located in Portugal and Andalusia. However, as early as 1501, African slaves were imported into Santo Domingo (Luciano 46). Luciano, therefore, asserts that Santo Domingo and the Americas played a significant role in slave trade and was a center of spread of the Spanish conquest and dominion to other areas like the Islands of Puerto Ric o, Jamaica and Cuba (Luciano 45-46). Another significant factor is that the Americas acted as a center for receiving African slaves especially from the greater Senegambia (Spielvogel 424-428). Almost half a century before America was discovered; conquered and colonized, slaves of African origin, mostly those from Senegambia, arrived by ship from Portugal and were then sold in Lisbon, an active slave market. These slaves finally ended up in the Iberian Peninsula and were converted to Christianity, hence, becoming Portuguese speakers with some Spanish dialects, the Wolof being the greatest in number and were called â€Å"Ladino’s† which meant Latinized Africans (Rout 57-58). After American conquest and colonization began, the Iberian Peninsula continued to receive an influx of enslaved Africans. These slaves and their descendants became the first people of African origin to be brought into America as â€Å"Ladino’s†. Hence the significance of the Americas i n the slave trade is that it resulted to rapid voyages especially from greater Senegambia to the Caribbean causing early Spanish America to be largely occupied by people of African descend from the Greater Senegambia (Rout 82-90). The Assientos/Licene granted by the Spanish King is crucial to mention, especially when exploring the significance of the slave trade beginning in the Americas at Santo Domingo.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Slave Trade Begins in America at Santo Domingo: A specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More According to Luciano Franco’s analysis of the slave trade from the 16th century to the 19th century, it is evident that the period was significant in the history of the African slave trade as the Caribbean colonies began in February 1528, and this is the period when the Spanish king granted the first assiento/license to introduce African slaves into the Americas (Spanish American po ssessions) (Luciano 66). During this period, a special board, Junta De Negros was established in the Spanish region (Casa de la Contrantacion in Seville) (Minster par. 6-10). This board was concerned with African slave trade to ensure compliance with the Assientos/license. Towards the end of the fifteenth century, the first nine-year period license was granted to Pedro Gomez Reynel to navigate the West Indies region and capture Negro slaves. This concession was however withdrawn later and awarded to the Portuguese, which stipulated the transport of Africans from the African region to the Caribbean (Minster 32-38). In addition, the significance of the Americas in the slave trade can be explained by the history of slave trade prior to the establishment of the Royal Company of Adventurers in 1660. Thus between 1630s and 1640s, the trade was restricted in volume and no connection existed with the West Indies or the Americas. This led to the English slave trade being started by John Hawk ins between 1562 and 1569. Later, in 1562, John Hawkins ferried African slaves from the African shores and shipped them to the Spanish region of Santo Domingo where the slaves were exchanged for gold, sugar and hides wit the Spanish colonialists (Rout 30-39). The wisdom and cunning manner that Hawkins had shown especially in the Caribbean slave trade, however, did not reckon with the Casa de Contratacion in Seville which would not allow any slight infiltration in the Spanish monopolized region of trade, hence, the capturing of two ships which Hawkins had send to sell hides which were to be exchanged for negro slaves in Santo Domino (Luciano 45-56). In addition, the royal decree of 25th January 1780 which gave the slave dealers of Cuba, Santo Domingo and Puerto Rico the right to obtain slaves from the French colonies of the Caribbean can further be used to explore the above issue. This later led to free slave trading in Cuba, Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo under the royal decree of 28 th February 1789 which was later extended by the royal decree of 24th November 1791 (Minster par.5-9).Advertising Looking for research paper on african american? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Thus Santo Domingo was significant in slave trade as it was given the consent/royal decree to engage in free trade of slaves. Some authors have suggested that the fact that Santo Domingo was given the mandate/decree to engage in slave trade implies that it had previously been engaged in other activities of slave trade and slavery (Minster, par 3-4). The Americas played a critical role in slave trade as it was the center where the Spanish and the Portuguese established their colonial empires. Furthermore, Spain also had control of a large empire to the south of the Americas. The Americas was also critical as it faced competing interests from the English, Dutch and French. These interests spread from the Americas to other regions e.g. the Central African Coast in an attempt to create colonial empires which saw the spread of the slave trade (Spielvogel 424-428). According to Spielvogel, the conquest of the Americas was instrumental in the expansion of slave trade and slavery into other parts of the world. This caused some of the best and the worst forms of European colonization. Some of these occurrences included brutal repressions, plundering of resources and enslavement which could hardly be balanced by approaches such as creation of new institutions and fostering the rights of indigenous people (Spielvogel 424-428). Spielvogel also asserts that the Americas acted as a critical destination for slaves from Africa. From the sixteenth century to the eighteenth century, there was a dramatic growth in the slave trade where merchant ships from Europe (i.e. Portugal, England, France and the Dutch) carried manufactured goods from Europe (such as guns and cloth) where they were exchanged for African slaves, who were transported by cargo ships to the Americas and then sold (Spielvogel 424-428). According to Spielvogel, approximately 275, ooo Africans who were enslaved during the slave trade in the sixteenth century ended up in other regions while approximately 2,000 ende d up in the Americas annually. Spielvogel asserts that this number reached one million in the period of the seventeenth century and by the eighteenth century, it had reached six million. Therefore, the fact that almost 10 million slaves of African origin were transported to the Americas between the sixteenth and the eighteenth century implies that the Americas played a significant role in the slave trade and slavery (Spielvogel 424-430). Conclusion In this paper, I explored the significance of slave trade beginning in the Americas at Santo Domingo. It has been elicited that the Americas played a crucial role in the activities of the slave trade and slavery, using slaves of African origin and minor populations of Americans and Indians to provide labor in sugarcane plantations. In addition, Santo Domingo has been mentioned as a crucial center where the activities of the slave trade and slavery flourished and spread to other regions. Therefore, the Americas and Santo Domingo played a s ignificant role in the beginning of the slave trade (Rout 36-40). Works Cited Luciano, Franco. Thomas More essays

Thomas More essays Sir Thomas More ranks in the upper echelon of heroes of the humanist movement. His greatest work, Utopia, focused on peoples curiosity concerning the New World. The premise of Utopia is a conversation that More had with Raphael Hythlodaeus, a sailor who traveled with Amerigo Vespucci to discover a new land named Utopia. More utilizes the pun of the word Utopia, meaning both good place and no place. More both criticizes his own government and describes a perfect one, a mixture of progressive ideas and those of Plato. In this society, the concept of private property is virtually non-existent. The majority of political officers are elected in free elections, and More believes that everyone-men, women, and members of every profession-should do genuine work, particularly manual labor. Because everyone is working, all tasks can be completed in a six-hour day, leaving plenty of creative leisure time. Everything in this society is shared, and material goods are of no particular value. For example, silver and gold were not kept in vaults; rather they were used to construct pots and pans. More tries to return to medievalism while integrating the improvements of his age. He also opposes the new system of capitalism, and states that evils transpire most when money beareth all the swing. More insists on equality, and this equality means that all people should work at a trade, except the few selected to be either priests or scholars. However, despite his clever preparation, Mores equality breaks down , as he has slaves for labor considered unworthy of the Utopians. He, in addition, was disgusted by the incessant warfare of his era, and insisted on little or no warfare conducted by his Utopians. He intends that all wars be contested on bordering lands, and would be fought by mercenaries. One of the imperfections of Mores society is that he only stretches this ideal nation to ...

(any topic) but I choose to talk about a violence scene that happened Essay

(any topic) but I choose to talk about a violence scene that happened while I was at a place somewhere - Essay Example At the Jomo Kenyatta Airport, we were received by my father’s friend, Mr. Robert Rickaby, who works in the central part of Kenya. Mr. Rickaby is the director of USAID programs in the central part of Kenya, i.e. in Meru. From the Jomo Kenyatta Airport, we went directly to Meru, where Mr. Rickaby works. In Meru, Mr. Rickaby works at a village called Chiakariga, so we stayed at the Chiakariga village for a week before we started visiting the major tourist centres in Kenya. It was while I was at the Chiakariga village that I witnessed a bizarre incident of violence. In the central part of Kenya, as I came to learn later, the predominant religions are Christianity and the traditional African Religions (Religions of Kenya, web). Christianity and the traditional African religions, however, coexist peacefully in Kenya, although in some instances the worldview of the two religions crash. My witness of the bizarre act of violence took place on Monday, 22nd September 2013. On this day, Mr. Rickaby had taken us to Chiakariga Market to visit the people there and to have an experience of the culture of the people. In the trip to Chiakariga market, we had two tour guides, Mr. Mutegi and Mr. Mwenda, both friends of Mr. Rickaby. Shortly after arriving at the Chiakariga market, we saw a crowd of people curiously gathering somewhere. The gathering was rapidly enlarging. Out of curiosity, I asked our tour guides to take us there so that we could have a glimpse of what was happening. Our tour guides agreed to take us there but cautioned us to be wary because violence could easily erupt from the gathering. When we finally got there, I saw two men and two women; all in white robes. When we inquired from our tour guides whom the people in white robes were, our tour guides told us that the people in the white robes were pastors. The pastors were so charismatic and they were charging the crowd with good music;

Negotiation Post 3 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Negotiation Post 3 - Essay Example Therefore there are usually several contract negotiations. There is a particular one that I was involved in and it has always stuck in my mind. A new manager had been appointed at a certain club and he met with a certain player to inform him that the club would not be renewing his contract. The manager had a preconcieved idea about the players at the club. His view of them was that of spoilt kids who threw the toys out of their prams simply to get attention. On a certain player, he thought him to an egotistical individual who thought he was God’s gift to football and the manager was out to put him into his place. Maybe the manager prior to the talk with the player should have read Stuart Diamond’s Getting More and would have known that he should approach such negotiations differently. He had a certain way of negotiating and he stuck to it. Although this is good because then it means he has a plan and a formula which he follows, it could also work against him because not every situation is the same and he came to learn this soon. Negotiation requires one to adapt to different situations and different people, it is therefore not advisable to be rigid. Having some form of flexibility could go a long way in determining the success of the negotiations. During the talk the player informed the manager that he had the utmost respect for him and would respect any decision he made. He also said that he was willing to work hard to win the manager’s faith and to prove himself worthy of being chosen to play. To cut the long story short, the manager was very impressed by the player’s humility and respect and the manager was disarmed by his charm. The manager had come prepared for a shouting match that he was determined to win but the player took a different route completely. The player did not put on a facade, he was very candid and was himself. During the negotiations I

Interview with the first gentleman Essay Example for Free

Interview with the first gentleman Essay MANILA -My news editor asked me to interview the husband of the highest official of the land, Mr. Miguel â€Å"Mike† Arroyo. On the day appointed, I was whisked in to the Malacanang palace, where after the formalities, i. e. , being frisked by presidential guards in combat fatigues, I was shown in to the Philippines’ equivalent of the Oval Office. Mr. Arroyo rose to shake my hand. He was not tall, but immense, very fat, and had a bored air about him. With him was an old man wearing glasses, who introduced himself as Jess Santos, a lawyer and the First Gentleman’s spokesperson. The interview went on as follows: Q: I hear you’ve been busy these days, filing libel cases against some journalists. Jess: Yes, that is correct. You know these newspaper guys, they’re a pain in the ass. Always noisy. But of course you can’t help it. We live in a democracy, and the Philippines is the most democratic in Asia. I hope you’ll agree. But when they attack the First Gentleman, using all kinds of defamatory imputation, using the media to spread these lies and calumniate and slur him so as to blemish his clean and untainted reputation, he has to fight back. And there’s nothing wrong in using the courts to seek justice. (The First Gentleman nods gravely.) Q: Are there any truths to these so-called lies against the First Gentleman? Jess: Oh, no! None at all. This allegation about unexplained wealth, it’s absurd. It isn’t wrong to be rich, you know. But the main point here, which you must not miss, and should be emphasized in your column or whatever, is that Mr. Arroyo is a gentleman. I mean, a gentleman in the real sense of the word. You don’t see a gentleman everyday, do you? He is very dignified, punctilious of honor, the epitome of chivalry, gallantry, and respect. (The First Gentleman nods, dozing off. ) Q: Is it true he dared the lawyer of a defendant to a fistfight in court? (The First Gentleman opens his eyes, looks at me, but says nothing. ) Jess: Well, you know how it is with honorable men like the First Gentleman. They are very sensitive when their honor is brought to ridicule. And in order to preserve his honor and integrity, it is but normal for the First Gentleman to react in his defense by calling the offending party to a fight, which shows that the First Gentleman is not a pushover, nor is he a weakling, but a chivalrous man like the knights of old who were not afraid to do battle to defend their honor. Q: I see. What about his rumored liaison with a pretty woman, allegedly his secretary? Jess: (assuming a pained expression): Please, please, do not dignify such baseless, malicious accusations. The First Gentleman would never enter into an unchaste relationship with a woman other than his wife, the President, because a true gentleman will never entertain any immoral thought, much more an illicit affair with a woman. (The First Gentleman looks at the ceiling as if remembering something. ) Q: According to a columnist, the First Gentleman stayed in a $20,000 suite at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas when he went there to watch the fight between your Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales. Jess: That is not true. I doubt if you can find such a room in Las Vegas. And even if he did, the expenses may have been paid by friends. You know the First Gentleman, he has friends from high places. Q: Well, I admit I don’t know him that much. And I notice he isn’t saying anything. Can I interview him? Jess: Oh, sure. There’s nothing to worry about him. He is the perfect gentleman. Q: Well, sir, could you react to the accusation that you have a secret bank account in Germany? FG: (unsmiling)Who told you that? Q: Well, it’s on the papers, sir. Just trying to get your reaction firsthand. FG: Well, um, it’s a lot of shit, I mean, whoever wrote that article is an asshole, I mean, he must be an enemy of the state to say such matters. Why, I know, being the First Gentleman, that there are continuing threats to our national security. Q: I also hear this issue was brought up by a certain Congressman Cayetano who is now running for Senator. And this person has challenged you to issue a waiver so that he could prove who’s telling the truth. FG: (scowling). The worthless scumbag! Scoundrel! Bloody fool! Pardon me, but I can’t help myself. You see, this person has been using his parliamentary immunity to attack me at every turn. I’m sick of him. But I won’t be dragged into this controversy. Q: He also says you brought 50 million pesos in a helicopter in Mindanao to buy votes in the last election where your wife won as President. FG: That is a lie! Don’t believe the goddam son of a gun! Q: And he has just issued a public statement that he is daring you to engage him in a debate at Plaza Miranda to show who is telling the truth. FG: The nerve! I will not stoop down to his level. If he wants, I challenge him to a fistfight (rolls up his sleeves). Q: He also says you are crook and a liar and an adulterer. FG: (roaring). He said that? Tell him to just wait. Tomorrow I’ll file twenty counts of libel against him. I have fifty lawyers to work on that. Jess: Now there, there, please don’t get excited. A gentleman is never riled up. FG: Tell him I will get his goddam ass! Jess: Please sir, you’re a real gentleman. FG: I know that, I know. And I’ll prove to the #@! =* guy that I’m a *^%4# man of honor! (end of interview).

Galileo and Newton :: Galileo, Isaac Newton

Galileo believed the physical world to be bounded. He says that all material things have "this or that shape" and are small or large in relation to other things. He also says that material objects are either in motion or at rest, touching or not touching some other body, and are either one in number, or many. The central properties of the material world are mathematical and strengthened through experimentation. Galileo excludes the properties of tastes, odors, colors, and so on when describing the material world. He states that these properties "reside only in the consciousness." These latter properties would cease to exist without the living creature so the mathematically defined properties are the most accurate in describing the material world. Galileo seems to test his beliefs through experimentation and mathematical reasoning. He sites examples in life that support his hypothesis. His argument is of a scientific nature because he is making a hypothesis on a distinctive type of concept. The conclusions that Galileo made relate directly to the work in physics for which he is so well known. His conclusions put emphasis on shapes, numbers, and motion which are all properties that lend themselves to support through "reasoning back and forth between theory and experiment." I feel that Galileo's argument is a valid one because it explains relations in nature and the physical world through mathematical analysis. This allows him to define a world outside of human existence that can be logically calculated and explained. His view describes the world in which living creatures live and not contrasts it to the world within living creatures. The problem with Galileo's view is that it pioneers a scientific outlook but never actually fulfills it. Newton believes the world is ultimately made up of hard particles that can retain different properties. The central properties are solid, massy, impenetrable, and movable particles. He believes God created matter in the beginning in such a way to allow the particles to take on mathematical forms. His approach is a scientific one because he practices the continual interaction of experiment and theory. It is the hard particles that move in such a way that can be assigned certain mathematical principles that clearly explain the interaction of bodies. Newton's conclusion seems to be a strong one because it deals with the world being made up of particles and shows how these particles act with each other in a way that can be explained scientifically. I like the idea of organized flow in the world and God being the creator of it all. The mathematical/scientific approach offers explanation to how the particles are

Discuss the Relationship Between Great Britain

The years 1750-1776 were very volatile years regarding the relationship between Britain and the North American colonies. A large scale war, taxes, and revolts all played a part in the hostilities between the two nations. Economics, however, may have been the spark that started the fire between the two nations, and might perhaps be the most significant cause of the future conflicts between the North American colonies and Great Britain. The French and Indian war was fought from 1754-1761 primarily between the French with Indian allies and Britain for control of North America. This war was one of the first wars that would be fought on a global scale requiring more resources to aid in the war effort. Britain poured very large sums of money into the war in order to protect the colonists. By the end of the war, after Britain’s victory and the signing of the treaty of Paris of 1763, Britain had expended much of its resources. Americans, after hearing the news of Britain’s victo ry in the war, were readily making plans to venture westward into newly acquired lands. Britain, fearing that Indians would attack the colonies, quickly passed the proclamation of 1763 prohibiting settlement west of the Appalachians.Doing this was one effort to prevent future conflicts that would in turn require Britain to utilize more of its resources. Britain had dug an economic hole so deep that it would require vast amounts of dirt to refill it. Where was the money to come from? The Americans, having barely supported the war effort, would become the mule that was to carry the burden. The war was in fact fought to protect the colonies; thereby the colonists should have to pay for the money that was used for their own defense. Britain embraced this idea and started passing tax acts and enforced the navigation acts.Of the acts that were passed to raise tax revenue the first was the Sugar Act. This act placed a tax on all sugar that was imported into the colonies. Another act that w as passed was the stamp act which placed taxes on playing cards, marriage licenses and other printed goods. The colonists showed fierce resentment to this as they eventually formed the stamp act congress. As seen in Document B sections III and IV the colonists believed that they did not need to pay these taxes as they were not even being implemented by their own government.Other forms of resentment would arise as groups known as the sons of liberty and daughters of liberty would be formed. In document C it is shown that the sons of liberty were a group of common townsfolk workers. These men and women would cry for liberty, no stamps, and property as they believed that they should not have to pay for the taxes. They also enforced nonimportation agreements to make other fellow colonists support their cause to rebel against the mother country. The navigation acts also posed as a serious threat to the colonists as they forced trade specifically between them and England exempting other c ountries from the trade. This was a major economic problem for the colonists as they were not able to sell goods to other countries as they could possibly obtain larger profits as they could sell more goods and at higher prices. In document D Benjamin Franklin talks about how the colonists are restricted to trade with England except for the smuggling that occurs between Spanish and colonial trade. He feels that some action should be taken that would eventually better the colonies economically. Overall, economics were the roots of the weeds that had been planted by Britain sparking a major conflict that cost them an entire nation.

Essay about Industrial Relations and Problems at Toyota...

INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS (IR) PROBLEMS AT TKM (TOYOTA KIRLOSKAR MOTORS) 1) Examine the industrial relations (IR) problems at TKM. What factors led to the strike and lockout at the company’s plant? What measures, according to you, should the management and employees take to avoid such problems in the future? Discuss. Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), one of the world largest automobile manufacturers, had entered into the Indian market in 1997 through a joint venture with Kirloskar Group; in 2006 employees had been dismissed and suspended by the company, on disciplinary rounds. The dispute is settled peacefully and voluntarily, although reluctantly, between labor and management. Negotiation Negotiation is one of the principal means of settling labor disputes. However, due to lack of trust between the employers and workmen or their trade unions or inter-rivalry of the trade unions and the employers being in a commanding position, many a time negotiations fail. Adjudication: It is three tier system of adjudication viz. Labor Courts, Industrial Tribunals and National Tribunals. And to avoid such problem in future formal committees need to be formed which address both employees companies concern in fair manners. 2) Comment on the role played by trade unions in IR problems at TKM.
